Level: Medium (some amentities)
For forest fun!
Jarrahdene is a peaceful campground in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, set under a broad canopy of jarrah, mari and peppermint trees, and a short drive out of Margaret River near the magnificent Boranup Forest.
It is a great place for soaking in the sights and sounds of the south-west forest and perfect for kids to find a spot to build a cubby with fallen branches or ride their bikes around the dirt tracks of the three loops of sites.
It is a relatively new Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions campground so all the amenities are new and kept clean.
The individual campsite are well placed so no one is too far from the toilets and yet the sites feel far enough apart for that sense of seclusion. There are three loops of sites and they vary from ‘park and walk’ sites with a very short stroll to your spot, to ‘park and stay’ sites where you can bring you van or trailer all the way in.
Insider Info
- Jarrahdene was the site of a thriving mill town and there is a great short walking look with interpretation signs that introduce you to what it was like back in 1900
- All the sites are really well shaded, so you can be comfortable even in the summer
- This is a great place to use as a base to explore Boranup Forest, Hamelin Bay, and down to Augusta
In the Area...
Boranup Forest is perhaps the most iconic stand of karri trees in the south west and you can explore it by foot, bike or 4wd.
Hamelin Bay is not only a beautiful beach it is also home to large friendly stingrays that come right up to shore (but remember to always look but not touch wildlife).
Jewel Cave is one of the most beautiful caves in WA.
Access
The tracks through Jarrahdene are not sealed, but they are well maintained and you won’t have any issues getting in or out in a 2wd.
