Potters Gorge
Wellington Dam Rd, Worsley
194 km from Perth
Level: Medium (some amentities)
Ideal for those after a bushland camping experiene!
Situated just 2 hours from Perth, Potters Gorge offers a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Surrounded by tall Jarrah trees and abundant birdlife, it is undoubtedly one of the best camping spots for you and the kids to soak up the sights and sounds of nature.
The campsites at Potters Gorge are large and widely spaced out. Each site is nestled by tall trees, providing a decent amount of shade and privacy.
The sites and amenities are well maintained (including the eco toilets and bins).
Each campsite also comes equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring.
Some sites are bigger than others and may be more suitable for larger families or caravans.
For instance, sites 19-23 are a tad smaller and may not be suitable for larger groups. Sites 9-12 have great views of the Dam (as they are the closest).
There is also a group camping area, equipped with a sheltered camp kitchen, complete with BBQs, seating and a large fire pit.
Click here for a map of the campground.
There are multiple water access points throughout the site however the water will need to be boiled before use.
There may not be water available at each access point however, so it is best to bring your own supply.
There is also a separate day use area, with picnic tables, sheltered BBQs and ample parking.
Please note: there is no power or showers at this campground.
Insider Info
Bring your bathers!
The campground backs onto the edge of Wellington Dam. A 5 minutes stroll from your campsite will take you right up to the water’s edge, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim or paddle.
The calm waters are perfect for paddle boarding or kayaking. Kayaks and pedal craft can easily be launched from the water’s edge.
The water is shallow upon entering and is a tad warmer than other swim spots (e.g. Honeymoon Pool), perfect for little ones to splash around in.
If you’re planning to spend the day at the 'beach' or will be there for a couple of hours, be sure to take your own shade protection such as a beach umbrella or pop-up tent and your own chairs as there are no seating options near the water’s edge.
There is 4WD access right up to the shore.
Look out for the line of rocks that mark out the path from the end of the road (near the Day Use area) to the water’s edge.
Do pack a mallet to hammer your tent pegs in because the ground here is extremely tough!
Don’t worry if you have trouble getting all of your pegs in as the site is surrounded by trees and is not exposed to much wind.
In the Area...
Bring your bike or your walking shoes as Wellington National Park offers some of the State's top trails experiences, including the Sika Trail (9.8km loop), Jabitj Trail (12km return) and part of the Wiilman Bilya Trail (19.7km one way).
For those wanting a shorter walk (3km one way), try walking up from the campsite to the Kiosk at the dam wall.
Be rewarded with an amazing view of the newly completed Wellington Dam Mural (the largest dam mural in the world).
In addition to the dam, be sure to check out other swim spots in the area such as Honeymoon Pool and Long Pool. The iconic Black Diamond Lake is only a 20 minute drive away.
