Nanga Rd, Dwellingup
100 km from Perth
Level: Medium (some amentities)
Ideal for those after the real bush camping experience!
Set at the top of the hill, the Baden Powell Campground at Lane Poole Reserve (Dwellingup) offers families the opportunity to experience bush camping at its finest. And it's less than 1 ½ hours from Perth!
Campsites are nestled in amongst the jarrah trees, with thick vegetation and good spacing between sites.
The amenities, which include drop toilets, a camp kitchen (with rain water taps, dishwashing sinks and food preparation surfaces), BBQs, picnic tables and fire pits, are well maintained and some of the campsites have wheelchair access.
Note that there is no direct river access from this campground. Baden Powell Day Use Area (a great swim spot) is a short walk down the hill (around 400m) or a quick drive.
In addition to the Baden Powell , there are five other campgrounds in Lane Poole Reserve (suitable for individuals and small groups). Online booking in advance (at least 1-2 weeks to avoid missing out) is essential for camping at all six campgrounds.
Insider Info
The wildflower displays in Spring are spectacular.
Bring floatation devices such as body boards and floaties for the littlies as the river is deep with no real areas (other than on the steps) for wading.
Make sure to bring your own water too.
Bring your own firewood, as you are not allowed to collect it within the reserve (be sure to take note and respect any fire bans in place).
Also, be prepared for horse flies during warmer months and bring repellent.
In the Area...
The Murray River flows through the area and provides a great swimming hole (about a 300m walk down from the campground), fishing spot and place to canoe/kayaking during the warmer months.
The Bibbulmun Track and Munda Biddi Trail also run through Lane Poole Reserve and provide fantastic bush walking and mountain biking opportunities.
The Waterous Trail runs off the Munda Biddi and provides another good option for cyclists.
The Baden Powell Day Use Area - around 400m down the hill (either walk or drive) - is a fantastic swim spot in the summer months with cool, deep, tranquil waters. Check out our unique swim spot review here.

Dogs are allowed in the recreation area of Lane Poole but must be kept on a leash at all times.
